**Mumbai, India** – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a closure report in the death case of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, nearly five years after his death on June 14, 2020. The report, submitted to a Mumbai court on Saturday, concludes the agency’s investigation into the circumstances surrounding the actor’s demise.
Rhea Chakraborty, who was implicated in the case, has consistently maintained her innocence. Her lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, reiterated this claim following the CBI’s announcement. Maneshinde stated that Chakraborty had no involvement in Rajput’s death, emphasizing that the initial Mumbai Police investigation also cleared her of any wrongdoing. He highlighted that Chakraborty had left Rajput’s residence on June 8, 2020, following disagreements related to his drug use and medication. There was no contact between them after that date.
Maneshinde criticized the filing of a case against Chakraborty in Patna, alleging misappropriation of funds, describing it as an attempt to implicate her despite Rajput living with several other people at the time of his death. He stated that the Supreme Court subsequently transferred the case to the CBI, which, after a thorough investigation, concluded with this closure report.
Rajput’s death, initially ruled a suicide by the Maharashtra Police, sparked widespread controversy and led to the high-profile investigation. The actor’s post-mortem report cited asphyxia as the cause of death. The CBI’s closure report brings an end to this lengthy and highly publicized investigation.
