**Coimbatore, March 25, 2025** – Six first-year engineering students from the Nehru Institute of Technology near Coimbatore were arrested on Monday for allegedly assaulting a senior student. The assault, which occurred on the night of March 20-21 at the college hostel, was captured on video and widely circulated on social media.
The arrested students, aged 17 and 18, are facing charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to giving false information, rioting, and assault. Thirteen students, including the six arrested, were suspended by the college principal on March 22.
The arrests followed a complaint filed by the victim. Perur Sub-Division Deputy Superintendent of Police L. Sivakumar confirmed the arrests and stated that the investigation is ongoing.
