**Paços de Ferreira, Portugal** – The candidacy of Pedro Andrade for the presidency of FC Paços de Ferreira has been rejected, leaving Rui Miguel Abreu as the sole candidate in Friday’s elections. The General Assembly Board (MAG) rejected Andrade’s bid on Tuesday due to several irregularities.
The main reason cited was a condition imposed by Andrade’s slate (list B) that the new board only assume office on May 15th, after the end of the football season. The MAG deemed this violated the wishes of the club members, who, at a January 8th meeting, expressed their desire for the elected board to take office immediately.
Further irregularities included an error in the name of a candidate for the Fiscal Council and unpaid membership fees from an associate, both contravening club statutes and electoral regulations.
Andrade’s campaign denounced the rejection as a “black mark” on the club’s history, accusing the MAG of preventing members from freely choosing the club’s future and undermining democratic processes.
Abreu, a former marketing director for the club and currently employed by Rio Ave, remains the only candidate. His platform includes the sale of 75% of the club’s sports limited company (SAD) for €8 million. The election is scheduled for Friday, March 21st.
