MALAPPURAM, Kerala, March 24, 2025 – Madin Academy in Malappuram is preparing to host a massive prayer conference on Thursday, March 27, in observance of Lailathul Qadr, a sacred night for Muslims. Expected to draw tens of thousands from across Kerala, the event is anticipated to be one of the largest outside of Mecca and Medina.
The conference will coincide with the launch of a year-long anti-drug campaign spearheaded by Madin Institute of Mental Health and Rehabilitation (MIMHAR). The campaign aims to reach one lakh school and college students through awareness programs, and provide drug-free resource materials to ten lakh families. A 1,000 km awareness rally, free counseling, and a de-addiction helpline will also be part of the initiative.
Madin Academy Chairman Syed Ibrahim Khaleel Bukhari emphasized the urgent need for collective action to combat the growing drug menace affecting youth. The conference will include a pledge against drug use, writing workshops for Islamic scholars, and prayer sessions lasting from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m. Prominent religious leaders, including Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama secretary Ponmala Abdul Khadir Musliar and All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama general secretary Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliar, will participate.
The event will also feature a mass Iftar, expected to be one of the largest in India, catering to over one lakh attendees. Extensive arrangements, including over 100 helpline counters linked to police, fire and rescue services, and medical teams, are in place to ensure a smooth and safe event. Suhoor (pre-dawn meal) will be provided for those traveling from afar. The conference concludes a series of spiritual and educational programs held throughout Ramadan at Madin Academy.
