**MILWAUKEE, WI** – The Illinois Fighting Illini secured a dominant 86-73 victory over the No. 11 seed Xavier Musketeers in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday night at Fiserv Forum. Four Illini players scored in double figures, propelling them to their second consecutive second-round appearance.

Will Riley led the Illini with 22 points, hitting eight of his last nine shots, including three three-pointers. Tomislav Ivisic added a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, also sinking four three-pointers. Kasparas Jakucionis contributed another double-double, scoring 16 points and dishing out 10 assists, while also grabbing nine rebounds. Kylan Boswell rounded out the double-digit scorers with 15 points.

The game was a back-and-forth affair early, with multiple lead changes. However, Illinois consistently responded to Xavier runs, building leads through strong offensive performances and effective second-chance opportunities. A crucial 7-0 run late in the first half gave Illinois a 40-35 lead at halftime.

The Illini extended their advantage to double digits early in the second half and maintained control for the remainder of the game, despite a late Xavier push. Riley’s consistent scoring and Jakucionis’ court vision proved instrumental in thwarting the Musketeers’ comeback attempts.

Illinois will now face the No. 3 seeded and No. 18 ranked Kentucky Wildcats on Sunday in Milwaukee for a spot in the Sweet Sixteen.
