ISLAMABAD — A Pakistani High Court has reinstated bi-weekly visits for former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated since August 2023. The Islamabad High Court’s decision, following hearings on 26 petitions concerning Khan’s visitation rights and jail conditions, grants him two meetings per week: one on Tuesday with family and lawyers, and one on Thursday with friends.
The court imposed restrictions, prohibiting visitors from making political statements. While the jail previously allowed twice-weekly meetings, this changed following Khan and his wife’s January conviction on corruption charges. The court clarified that only individuals approved by PTI coordinator Salman Akram Raja may visit, and all visitors must sign an undertaking to refrain from public statements following meetings. An application to the trial court is required for arranging meetings between Khan and his children. Khan faces numerous legal cases stemming from his removal from office in 2022.
