NEW DELHI – A significant crowd surge at New Delhi Railway Station on Sunday, March 23, 2025, caused by delays in several key train departures, was managed by police preventing a repeat of a deadly February incident. While platforms 12 and 13 experienced heavy congestion due to delays affecting trains including the Shiv Ganga Express, Swatantrata Senani Express, Jammu Rajdhani Express, Lucknow Mail, and Magadh Express, police intervention prevented any injuries or stampedes, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) KPS Malhotra. Malhotra confirmed a large crowd gathered but stressed that the situation was quickly brought under control following the departure of several trains. This incident follows a February stampede at the same station which resulted in 18 fatalities.
