Mon Mar 24 00:56:51 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Assembly Budget Session to Begin Amidst Political Tensions
**NEW DELHI, March 24, 2025** – The Delhi Assembly’s Budget Session commences Monday, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presenting the budget on Tuesday. The session, expected to last until March 28, is anticipated to be contentious, with the opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) poised to challenge the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.
The AAP plans to grill the BJP over its failure to deliver on pre-election promises, including the disbursement of ₹2,500 to women under the Mahila Samridhi Yojana and the provision of free gas cylinders to poor families. The party criticizes the BJP’s formation of a three-member committee to review the women’s aid scheme, viewing it as a tactic to delay implementation. The AAP also intends to highlight what it calls a “systematic assault on democracy,” citing the suspension of 21 of its MLAs in the previous session. AAP leader Atishi accused the BJP of creating a “dictatorship” in the Assembly, alleging unequal treatment of its MLAs during debates.
The BJP, meanwhile, is likely to continue its attacks on the AAP, referencing Comptroller and Auditor General reports. The Chief Minister described the budget as a “people’s budget,” following consultations with various stakeholders. The AAP, however, contends that the BJP has failed to deliver benefits despite receiving a surplus budget. The Assembly Speaker has issued directions to maintain decorum during the session. The session’s agenda also includes a debate on Delhi’s water infrastructure challenges and the consideration of Private Members’ Bills and Resolutions on March 28.
