Sun Mar 23 18:10:00 UTC 2025: ## High Winds Hand Brignone and Odermatt Downhill Titles at Sun Valley World Cup Finals
**SUN VALLEY, Idaho** – High winds forced the cancellation of the men’s and women’s downhill races at the World Cup finals in Sun Valley, Idaho, Saturday, handing Federica Brignone of Italy and Marco Odermatt of Switzerland the season-long downhill titles. The races, delayed multiple times due to snow and then high winds, will not be rescheduled.
Brignone’s victory marks her first career downhill World Cup title, a particularly sweet win given she secured the overall women’s title simultaneously. An emotional Brignone commented, “I’ve been working really hard…but to win the World Cup was just something really unexpected.” She celebrated the win with her mother, former ski racer Maria Rosa Quario, who received a Christmas present plane ticket to Sun Valley to witness her daughter’s success. The overall podium remains unsettled, with Lara Gut-Behrami currently in second and Sofia Goggia third.
Odermatt, already holding the overall World Cup title for a fourth consecutive year, added the downhill crown to his collection, marking his second straight win in the discipline. He attributed his success to a love of speed and the competitive drive to stay ahead of his strong Swiss teammates, Franjo von Allmen and Alexis Monney, who completed a Swiss podium sweep in the downhill standings. Despite missing out on a chance to race, defending champion Mirjam Puchner expressed satisfaction with her overall season.
The World Cup finals continue Sunday with the men’s and women’s super-G races.
