**BEIRUT/JERUSALEM/WASHINGTON** – A wave of escalating violence is sweeping across the Middle East, raising fears of a wider regional conflict. Israel has launched fresh attacks on both Lebanon and Gaza, resuming its offensive in the latter which has been described as genocidal by some. Simultaneously, the United States is conducting renewed airstrikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen, shattering already fragile ceasefires in multiple theaters of war.

The situation is characterized by a dangerous convergence of conflicts. Israel’s actions in Gaza and Lebanon come amidst a continuing humanitarian crisis and significant civilian casualties. The US intervention in Yemen further complicates the situation, fueling existing tensions and potentially exacerbating the humanitarian disaster. Experts warn that the current trajectory could easily lead to a significant escalation, with unpredictable regional consequences.

Alon Pinkas, former Israeli consul general in New York, Randa Slim, project director of the Middle East Track II Dialogues Initiative at the Wilson Center, and Nicholas Noe, editor-in-chief of Mideastwire.com, all expressed concerns about the escalating violence and the potential for the conflicts to merge into a broader regional conflagration.
