**DHAKA, BANGLADESH** – Former Bangladesh one-day cricket captain Tamim Iqbal was hospitalized Monday after suffering a heart attack during a domestic match. The 36-year-old, leading Mohammedan Sporting Club in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, complained of chest pains after participating in the toss. Following initial on-field treatment, he was rushed to a nearby hospital in Savar.
A medical officer from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Debashis Chowdhury, confirmed the heart attack, adding that Tamim’s heart function has since improved. Team officials are urging the public to pray for his speedy recovery.
The BCB postponed its scheduled meeting in response to the news, with several board members visiting Tamim at the hospital. Iqbal, who retired from international cricket last year, boasts a distinguished career spanning 391 matches and over 15,000 international runs. He is the only Bangladeshi batsman to achieve centuries in all three international formats. His condition is currently being monitored.
