Mon Mar 24 15:18:14 UTC 2025: ## India’s 100-Day TB Campaign Shows Significant Progress

**New Delhi, March 24, 2025** – India’s 100-day intensified TB elimination campaign, “TB-Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan,” has yielded significant results, according to Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda. Speaking at the World TB Day summit, he announced that over 12.97 crore people were screened, identifying over 7.19 lakh TB patients, including 2.85 lakh asymptomatic cases.

The campaign, launched on December 7, 2024, saw a rise in TB treatment coverage from 59% to 85%. Over 5,000 MLAs and 10,000 Gram Panchayats participated. The success was attributed to a “whole of the society” and “whole of the government” approach, leveraging technology such as handheld X-ray units, mobile diagnostic vans (“Nikshay Vahans”), and rapid NAAT testing to overcome geographical barriers. Over 13.46 lakh community screening camps were organized. The campaign also saw the registration of over 1,05,181 new “Nikshay Mitras,” volunteers who distributed over 3,06,368 food baskets to patients and their families.

Minister Nadda highlighted the use of indigenous diagnostic kits and repurposed COVID-19 RT-PCR machines for efficient and cost-effective TB detection. He emphasized the screening of vulnerable populations, including asymptomatic individuals and those with comorbidities. The government plans to expand the campaign nationwide.

A digital coffee table book documenting the campaign’s implementation was unveiled, along with a “Guidance Document on Differentiated TB Care” for high-risk patients. Awards were presented to high-performing states and union territories. The summit’s theme was “Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver.”
