Sun Mar 23 09:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Winter Storm Warning: Heavy Snow Expected Sunday

**DULUTH, MN (October 26, 2025)** – A significant winter storm is expected to impact the region this weekend, bringing heavy snow and a wintry mix to northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. Friday will see mostly sunny skies with highs ranging from the low 30s to low 40s, before a cold front moves in, bringing increased NW winds (10-20 mph) and a chance of rain/snow showers.

Saturday will be mostly sunny and cool, with highs in the mid-20s to low 30s and light southerly winds. However, a winter storm system will arrive overnight, bringing snow and a wintry mix from west to east after midnight.

The storm will intensify Sunday, bringing heavy, wet snow north of the Twin Ports and a wintry mix south of the ports. The wintry mix is expected to transition to all snow around midday. Temperatures near freezing will result in heavy, wet snow that is difficult to remove. Snowfall will continue overnight Sunday and taper off Monday morning. Total accumulations are forecast to be 4-8 inches across the region, with 8-12 inches possible along the North Shore. Lower amounts are anticipated immediately lakeside due to the moderating effect of Lake Superior. Gusty east winds (10-20 mph) are expected throughout Sunday.

Residents are urged to monitor weather forecasts closely and prepare for potentially hazardous travel conditions. For the latest updates, download the Northern News Now app or the Northern News Now First Alert weather app.
