Sun Mar 23 04:27:32 UTC 2025: ## Bihar Muslim Body Boycotts Chief Minister’s Iftar in Protest of Waqf Bill Support

**Patna, Bihar – March 23, 2025** – A prominent Muslim organization, the Imarat Shariah, has announced a boycott of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Iftar dinner this Sunday, protesting his support for the controversial Waqf Bill. The Imarat Shariah, which claims a large following across Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha, cited the bill as a threat to the economic and educational advancement of Muslims.

In a letter responding to the Chief Minister’s invitation, the organization accused Kumar of betraying his promise of secular rule and protecting minority rights. They argue that his alliance with the BJP and support for the bill contradict his past commitments. The Imarat Shariah dismissed the Iftar as mere tokenism, stating that the government’s indifference towards Muslim concerns renders such events meaningless.

The Chief Minister and his party, the Janata Dal (United), have yet to respond to the boycott. The JD(U), which traditionally relies on Muslim votes to maintain its power base, is facing an upcoming state assembly election. The party’s alliance with the BJP, both at the state and national levels, adds further complexity to the situation.
