**Doha, Qatar/Vadodara, India –** Amit Gupta, a senior employee of Tech Mahindra and the company’s Regional Head for Qatar and Kuwait, has been detained in Doha, Qatar, since January 1st, sparking concern among his family and prompting intervention from the Indian government.
Gupta’s family in Vadodara, Gujarat, alleges that he was detained without explanation for 48 hours, denied food and water, and has since been held for over three months. While Qatari authorities have reportedly accused Gupta of data theft, his family vehemently denies the accusations, suggesting a potential case of mistaken identity or internal company issues. Gupta’s mother, Pushpa Gupta, claims someone else within the company may be responsible and that her son, as Country Manager, is being made a scapegoat.
Tech Mahindra has confirmed that they are aware of the situation and are actively working with authorities in both India and Qatar to secure Gupta’s release. A company spokesperson stated that they are providing support to Gupta’s family and adhering to due process.
Gupta’s family initially learned of his detention when he failed to answer calls. His mother travelled to Doha to visit him briefly and has also sought the assistance of Vadodara MP Hemang Joshi, who has reportedly pledged to raise the matter with the Indian government. The Indian embassy in Qatar is also reportedly aware of the case.
Gupta, who boasts nearly 12 years with Tech Mahindra, according to his LinkedIn profile, remains detained, and the reasons behind his continued imprisonment remain unclear. The family’s plea for his release highlights the anxieties faced by Indian expatriates working abroad and the challenges in navigating foreign legal systems. The situation continues to unfold, with the hope for a swift resolution and Gupta’s safe return.
