**London/New Delhi:** Renowned author and philanthropist Sudha Murty, mother-in-law to former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, has stated that her family’s relationship with Sunak remained unchanged despite his time in office. In an interview on NDTV’s “India Through the Eyes of Its Icons,” Ms. Murty emphasized that their affection for him remains the same, regardless of his political position. She compared her feelings to the daughter in Shakespeare’s King Lear, stating, “Whatever may be Rishi’s position, I love him like a new son.”

While their family dynamic remained consistent, Ms. Murty acknowledged a shift in how the world perceived her following Sunak’s appointment. She noted an increase in requests for favors, particularly from those hoping to leverage her connection to the then-Prime Minister. However, she clarified that she was unable to fulfill these requests, emphasizing Sunak’s role as the head of a different nation. Ms. Murty also revealed that she stayed at 10 Downing Street during visits, but opted for accommodations outside the official residence due to security concerns.

The interview also touched upon Ms. Murty’s husband and Infosys co-founder, N.R. Narayana Murthy, whom she described as a simple man, a trait she attributed to their ability to maintain a harmonious life, regardless of their financial status.
