**Washington, D.C.** – The Trump administration announced Friday it will revoke the legal status of approximately 532,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela who entered the U.S. under a Biden-era program known as CHNV. This action, effective late April, will terminate their work permits and deportation protections.
The CHNV program, paused shortly after President Trump’s inauguration, offered a legal pathway for migrants, aiming to reduce illegal border crossings. However, the Trump administration claims the program was insufficiently vetted and detrimental to American workers. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin stated the move represents a return to “common-sense policies” and an “America First” approach.
Migrants are being urged to self-deport within 30 days, utilizing the CBP One app. Those who fail to comply face arrest and deportation. DHS will prioritize those who haven’t applied for alternative immigration benefits, such as asylum or green cards.
