Sun Mar 23 07:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Bangkok Bids to Join Formula 1 Calendar with 2028 Street Race

**Bangkok, Thailand –** Thailand is eyeing a spot on the prestigious Formula 1 calendar, with Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra announcing plans for a feasibility study into hosting a Bangkok street circuit Grand Prix starting in 2028. The announcement follows a meeting between the Prime Minister and Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali.

While Thailand already boasts the FIA-accredited Chang International Circuit in Buriram, the proposal focuses on a high-profile street race in the capital city. The government will conduct a comprehensive study examining the race route, budget requirements, and potential economic benefits for Thailand.

Prime Minister Shinawatra highlighted the potential for infrastructure upgrades in Bangkok, notorious for its traffic congestion, and a significant boost to tourism, particularly in the luxury travel sector. She emphasized the broader economic benefits, including job creation, revenue generation, and technology transfer.

Domenicali expressed enthusiasm for the proposal, stating the plans were “impressive” and looking forward to further discussions. The prospect of a Bangkok Grand Prix adds another layer of excitement to the already packed Formula 1 schedule, which currently includes 24 races worldwide. Thailand’s rich motorsport history, including past F1 drivers Alex Albon and Prince Birabongse Bhanudej, further fuels the ambition. The feasibility study will determine whether Bangkok can successfully join the ranks of other major global racing destinations.
