**Mumbai, India** – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a closure report in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, four years after taking over the investigation. Sources confirmed on Saturday that the report clears Rhea Chakraborty and her family of any wrongdoing.
Rajput, a prominent Bollywood actor, was found dead in his Mumbai apartment in June 2020, sparking widespread speculation and multiple investigations. His father filed a complaint alleging foul play, naming Chakraborty, his then-girlfriend, as a suspect. Chakraborty also filed a counter-complaint against Rajput’s family.
The CBI’s investigation, which included forensic analysis of the crime scene and questioning over 20 individuals, including Chakraborty, found no evidence to support allegations of murder or abetment to suicide. A forensic team from AIIMS previously concluded that Rajput’s death was a suicide.
The closure report, filed in connection with both complaints, has been submitted to the Bandra magistrate court. The court has scheduled the next hearing for April 8th. Once the court accepts the report, the case will be closed.
Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, expressed gratitude for the thorough CBI investigation, but criticized the “false narratives” surrounding the case that subjected Chakraborty and her family to significant hardship, including her 27-day imprisonment before being granted bail. He highlighted the toll the ordeal took on his client and her family, emphasizing the importance of justice and the fairness of the Indian judiciary.
In a separate development, the Supreme Court previously dismissed a CBI appeal to reinstate a lookout circular against Chakraborty and her family, characterizing the appeal as frivolous and possibly motivated by the high profile nature of the case.
