Sun Mar 23 06:12:47 UTC 2025: ## CBI Closes Sushant Singh Rajput Death Case; Rhea Chakraborty’s Lawyer Welcomes Report

**Mumbai, March 23, 2025** – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has closed its investigation into the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, submitting its closure report to a special court in Mumbai on Saturday. The report, which dismisses claims of poisoning and strangulation – previously asserted in the case – follows a thorough investigation including the examination of forensic evidence from AIIMS specialists and statements from Rhea Chakraborty and others in Rajput’s circle.

Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, welcomed the CBI’s findings, expressing gratitude for the comprehensive investigation. In a statement, Maneshinde criticized the extensive negative media coverage surrounding the case, highlighting the “untold miseries” suffered by Chakraborty, who spent 27 days in jail before being released on bail. He also condemned the media’s role in hounding innocent individuals.

The case, initially registered as an abetment of suicide by Bihar police following a complaint from Rajput’s father, K.K. Singh, alleged that Chakraborty and her family misappropriated Rajput’s funds. This claim was denied by Chakraborty. Following Rajput’s death on June 14, 2020, Chakraborty, her brother Shouvik, and others were also arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a separate drugs-related investigation linked to the case.

The Mumbai court will now determine whether to accept the CBI’s closure report or order further investigation.
