**Colombo, Sri Lanka –** Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Sri Lanka on April 5th, 2025, to finalize agreements reached during President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s visit to Delhi last year, according to an announcement made by President Dissanayake in Parliament on Friday. The visit coincides with the planned commencement of construction on a Sampur solar power plant, a joint venture between Sri Lanka’s Ceylon Electricity Board and India’s National Thermal Power Corporation.
The solar plant, replacing a previously planned coal power plant, will have a capacity of 50 megawatts (stage 1) and 70 megawatts (stage 2). This project follows a recent agreement between the two countries for the establishment of solar power plants in Sri Lanka. Separately, Sri Lanka has also signed a $2.5 billion debt deal with Japan.
President Dissanayake emphasized Sri Lanka’s commitment to not allowing its territory to be used against India. The Prime Minister’s visit underscores the strengthening bilateral relationship amidst Sri Lanka’s recent economic stability.
