**Mangaluru, March 23, 2025** – The Mangaluru Junction Railway Station (MAJN) is undergoing a significant facelift under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), with over 80% of the project already completed. Officials from the Southern Railway’s Palakkad Division expressed confidence that all work will be finished before April 2025.

The ₹19.32 crore project, initiated following efforts by former MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, includes extensive upgrades to the station’s facade, parking areas, and circulating areas. A new, magnificent entrance porch is nearing completion, along with a large concreted and beautified circulating area of nearly 7,000 sq mt. A 1,632 sq mt parking area is also in its final stages, with officials reporting 89% progress on these components. A new 155 sq mt entrance porch is almost complete (75% progress), along with work on a new air-conditioned waiting hall and a restroom for disabled passengers (60% progress).

The station’s platforms are also being upgraded, with resurfacing of Platforms 1, 2, and 3, the addition of full-length platform shelters, high mast lights, BLDC fans, and mobile phone charging units. A new foot overbridge connecting Platform 1 and Platforms 2-3 is also under construction.

The project incorporates traditional coastal architecture into the station’s design. Palakkad Divisional Railway Manager Arun Kumar Chaturvedi confirmed that 75% of the financial progress has been achieved and the division is confident of meeting the April deadline for Phase 1 of the ABSS. The upgrades aim to improve the experience for the station’s 6,700 daily passengers. MAJN, established in 1979, serves as a crucial transit hub connecting Kerala, Maharashtra/Goa, New Mangalore Port, and Bengaluru-Chennai.
