Sun Mar 23 02:22:05 UTC 2025: ## KKR’s Momentum Shift Costs Them IPL Opener Against RCB

Kolkata, India – Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered a disappointing 7-wicket defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their IPL opener at Eden Gardens. Despite a strong start, a crucial mid-innings collapse proved to be the turning point in the match.

KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane attributed the loss to a pivotal moment in the 13th over where the loss of three quick wickets shifted the momentum irrevocably. After a promising start with Sunil Narine (44) and Rahane powering KKR to 107/1 in just 9.5 overs, the dismissal of Narine triggered a collapse. Krunal Pandya’s double-wicket blow left KKR reeling at 145/5, effectively dashing their hopes of reaching a challenging 200+ total.

“We were going well until the 13th over, but 2-3 wickets changed the momentum,” Rahane stated in the post-match presentation. He admitted that while he and Venkatesh Iyer had targeted a score between 200-210, the late wickets prevented them from reaching their goal, ultimately leaving KKR with a below-par total of 174/8.

RCB’s explosive opening pair of Philip Salt and Virat Kohli then capitalized on the under-par total, smashing a 95-run partnership to secure a comfortable victory. The Eden Gardens crowd witnessed a dominant RCB display as they chased down the target with ease.

Rahane acknowledged RCB’s strong powerplay batting and the impact of the dew, but remained focused on improving KKR’s performance in future matches. He emphasized the need to learn from the mistakes made in this game and to address the areas that contributed to the loss.
