Sun Mar 23 02:32:52 UTC 2025: ## High Court Judge Denies Currency Recovery Allegations in Fire Aftermath

**New Delhi, March 23, 2025** – Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma has vehemently denied allegations of a large cash stash being found at his residence following a fire on March 14th. In a response to an inquiry initiated by Delhi High Court Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya, Justice Varma stated the allegations are a conspiracy to tarnish his reputation.

The controversy began after a fire broke out in a storeroom near the staff quarters of Justice Varma’s official residence. While initial reports suggested a significant amount of cash was discovered amongst the fire debris, Justice Varma insists neither he nor his family members had any knowledge of such funds. He emphasized that the storeroom was unlocked, accessible to all, and used for general storage, completely separate from his living quarters.

Justice Varma’s response, submitted to Chief Justice Upadhyaya, details his family’s whereabouts at the time of the fire, explaining that he and his wife were out of town. He contends that media outlets should have conducted thorough investigations before publishing the allegations. The Supreme Court has released the inquiry report from the Delhi High Court Chief Justice, and while a separate proposal to transfer Justice Varma to the Allahabad High Court is under consideration, the judge maintains his innocence. He strongly denounced the implications, calling the suggestion that his family would store large sums of cash in such an accessible location “preposterous.”
