**Meerut, Uttar Pradesh:** New details have emerged in the gruesome murder of Saurabh Rajput, a former Merchant Navy officer, whose dismembered body was found sealed in a cement drum earlier this month. Police investigations reveal that his wife, Muskaan Rastogi, tampered with a prescription to obtain sleeping pills, which she used to drug him before the killing.
Rastogi, along with her lover Sahil Shukla, stabbed Rajput multiple times on March 4th before dismembering his body. A post-mortem revealed the extreme violence of the attack, with the victim suffering multiple stab wounds to the heart, a severed head, and dismembered limbs. The cause of death was determined to be shock and excessive bleeding.
Authorities raided Usha Medical Store on Sunday, confirming that Rastogi purchased the sleeping pills from the establishment using a manipulated prescription displayed on her mobile phone. An investigation into the pharmacy’s record-keeping practices is underway, with potential penalties including license revocation.
Following the murder, Rastogi and Shukla went on a vacation to Himachal Pradesh, misleading Rajput’s family by sending messages from his phone. The crime only came to light on March 18th when Rastogi confessed to her mother. Both suspects are currently in custody.
Rajput’s six-year-old daughter reportedly told neighbours that her “Papa is in the drum,” suggesting she may have witnessed aspects of the crime. Furthermore, Rastogi has requested a government lawyer, citing estrangement from her family. Shukla has not yet made a similar request. Despite their attempts, authorities denied the couple’s request to be housed together in prison. The investigation is ongoing.
