Sun Mar 23 01:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Delhi High Court Judge’s Home Fire Reveals Large Sums of Cash; Investigation Launched
**NEW DELHI** – A fire at the Delhi residence of High Court Justice Yashwant Varma on March 14th has led to a major investigation after large sums of cash were discovered amidst the burned remains. A video of the charred currency notes has been released by the Supreme Court and widely circulated online.
Justice Varma maintains the incident was a deliberate attempt to frame him, denying any wrongdoing or knowledge of the origin of the money. He has submitted documents to the Supreme Court explaining the situation and asserting that he and his family do not have any connection to the burnt cash. He further stated that all his financial transactions are conducted through UPI and banking channels.
The Supreme Court has referred the matter to a three-member committee comprising Justices Sheel Nag (Delhi High Court Chief Justice), Justice Shivaraman (Karnataka High Court), and Justice G.S. Sandhawalia (Himachal Pradesh High Court). This committee will investigate the matter further. A preliminary 25-page report submitted by Justice D.K. Upadhyay on Saturday indicated the need for a more in-depth investigation.
Following the incident, the Supreme Court has ordered that no further judicial assignments be given to Justice Varma until the investigation is complete. The Delhi Police Commissioner has also been involved in the investigation. The circumstances surrounding the fire, the discovery of the large amount of cash, and the absence of Justice Varma at the time of the incident are all under scrutiny. The investigation is ongoing.
