**Guwahati, March 23, 2025** – The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) has cancelled all remaining Class 11 examinations scheduled from March 24 to 29 after widespread reports of question paper leaks. The decision, announced by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on X (formerly Twitter), affects 36 subjects.
The cancellation follows the earlier leak of the Class 11 Mathematics paper on March 21st, which led to the immediate cancellation of that exam and a police complaint. Investigations revealed that 18 schools, including three government institutions, prematurely opened sealed question paper packets before the exam. Fifteen private schools across ten districts have had their affiliations suspended, and are barred from admitting Class 11 students for the 2025-26 academic year. Further action against three more schools is pending.
According to the ASSEB, the leaked mathematics paper prompted fears that other papers, currently in the custody of various schools, were also compromised. Controller of Examinations Ranjan Kumar Das stated that an FIR has been filed with the CID Headquarters in Guwahati, with 18 additional cases to be filed at respective police stations. While Das acknowledged that not all 18 institutions may have leaked papers, he stated that a thorough investigation will identify the culprits.
This is the second major exam cancellation in Assam in recent weeks, following a Class 9 English exam paper leak in Barpeta district. The ASSEB will hold a board meeting on March 24th to determine a new exam schedule.
