**Ahmedabad, March 23, 2025** – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has declared Gopal Italia as its candidate for the upcoming Visavadar Assembly by-election in Gujarat. The by-election was cleared after the Gujarat High Court disposed of an election petition challenging the previous election results. The seat fell vacant in December 2023 following the resignation of Bhupendra Bhayani, who subsequently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Italia, a lawyer and former Gujarat AAP president, is known for his work advocating for farmers and fighting corruption. The AAP expressed confidence in his ability to win the seat with a significant margin.

The announcement comes as AAP’s core team prepares to meet with national convener Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi. This meeting will focus on strategies for the upcoming Assembly elections, as well as the Visavadar and Kadi by-elections, and local body elections.

The Election Commission is yet to announce the official date for the Visavadar by-election. The by-election was previously delayed due to the pending election petition. However, the petition was withdrawn after Bhayani’s resignation.
