Sun Mar 23 01:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Hailstorm and Strong Winds Damage Homes and Crops in Kagaznagar
**Kagaznagar, [Date]:** A severe hailstorm accompanied by strong winds wreaked havoc across parts of the Kagaznagar district on Friday evening. The storm, which struck during the hot summer months, significantly impacted Kagaznagar town and several villages in the Kagaznagar, Koutala, Rebbena, and Sirpur(T) mandals.
Preliminary assessments indicate that approximately 600 houses sustained damage in the Kagaznagar division, with the worst affected areas being Kagaznagar town, and the villages of Nazrulnagar, Vallakonda, Nagampet, and Raspelli. Revenue officials estimate 37 houses damaged in Kagaznagar mandal and 10 in the town itself, but expect the number to rise after a complete survey on Monday. In one instance, a house roof in Village No. 8 was completely blown away.
Agricultural losses were substantial. Around 3,000 acres of maize crops across five thousand acres of farmland in several villages were damaged, according to preliminary surveys by Agricultural Extension Officers. The hailstorm also caused damage to 67 acres of mango orchards. The falling hail also resulted in the destruction of many vegetable gardens.
The storm also caused widespread damage to infrastructure. Over 120 electricity poles were broken in the area, disrupting power supply and leading to the halting of water supply in several villages. Electricity crews worked throughout the night and into Saturday to restore power.
One former Sarpanch, Gokul Ray, in Village No.8, used a generator to power the water tank ensuring a supply of drinking water. Residents are calling for immediate assistance from authorities. The Tahsildar, Kiran, stated that a comprehensive assessment of the damage is underway.
