Sun Mar 23 01:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Unseasonal Rains, Hailstorms Lash Several Parts of India; Temperatures to Rise
**New Delhi, March 24** – Several parts of India experienced unseasonal heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and strong winds over the past 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A western disturbance is responsible for the erratic weather, which has impacted Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Vidarbha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana.
IMD scientist Umasankar Vyas reported heavy rainfall in parts of Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, while hailstorms were observed in Vidarbha, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana. Strong winds affected Jammu, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Vidarbha.
Vyas further stated that temperatures across the country are expected to rise by 4-5 degrees Celsius once the western disturbance subsides. However, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Saurashtra, and Kutch are expected to experience intense heat.
Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 31.7°C on Saturday, slightly above the seasonal average, while the minimum temperature was 16.7°C, slightly below average. The IMD forecasts clear skies for Delhi on Sunday, with maximum and minimum temperatures around 34°C and 16°C respectively.
The IMD issued orange and yellow alerts for several districts in Telangana, warning of thunderstorms, hailstorms, and strong winds until Sunday morning. Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are also predicted for various locations in Telangana.
Madhya Pradesh experienced heavy rain and hailstorms in Shahdol, Satna, and Maihar, while Narmadapuram recorded temperatures exceeding 37°C. The IMD expects a new weather system to become active from March 24.
Heavy rainfall in Bengaluru disrupted air travel, with at least 10 flights diverted to Chennai. Indigo Airlines confirmed that adverse weather conditions were affecting flight operations. The city and surrounding areas experienced significant rainfall, providing relief from the heat but also causing waterlogging and travel disruptions.
In Jharkhand, a combination of moisture from the Bay of Bengal and winds from North India has caused significant weather changes. The weather is expected to improve gradually from March 23, with only the eastern parts potentially experiencing rain and thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to increase by 3-4°C from March 24. Chaibasa recorded the highest rainfall in the state with 54 mm in the last 24 hours.
