**CHENNAI, March 23, 2025** – A day-long symposium on colon cancer, held in Chennai on March 22nd, emphasized the importance of early detection for successful treatment and cure. The event, organized by the Tamil Nadu Gastroenterologist Trust and Apollo Hospitals, featured presentations from leading experts in the field, including international faculty.
K.R. Palaniswamy, president of the Tamil Nadu Gastroenterologist Trust and a senior consultant at Apollo Hospitals, stressed that early diagnosis is key to combating colon cancer. The symposium covered various aspects of the disease, including prevention, management, and treatment.
The event included a presentation on a colorectal study by the Indian Society of Gastroenterology, Tamil Nadu chapter, and a demonstration of advanced techniques for early colon cancer detection and polyp removal by international experts Michael Bourke (Westmead Hospital, Sydney) and Evelien Dekker (University of Amsterdam). Other sessions focused on the role of Artificial Intelligence in colonoscopy and a multidisciplinary approach to managing advanced colon cancer.
