**Kozhikode, Kerala, March 22, 2025** – A recent survey by the Kozhikode Corporation has confirmed significant encroachment on the Kallai river behind the newly constructed OK Auditorium in Kallai. The survey, conducted on Friday, March 21st, revealed that at least 25 cents of land on the auditorium’s southern side, previously owned by Mangalam Press and later surrendered to the government, is illegally occupied.
Surveyor R. Jithesh stated that documents provided by the auditorium’s owners, Alhind Group, did not match the land’s actual boundaries. The disputed land, now used as a parking area, was previously flagged by the local river protection committee, who had thwarted an earlier encroachment attempt. Despite this, encroachers filled a portion of the riverbed with construction debris.
This latest survey corroborates an earlier assessment conducted on January 15th by the Corporation’s survey wing and the Department of Revenue. The Friday survey was undertaken as part of legal proceedings following a complaint lodged by the Kallai River Protection Committee with the Corporation secretary and the District Collector. The Corporation’s revenue wing and the tahsildar will now determine further action. The Alhind Group were given the opportunity to present supporting documentation during the survey.
