Sat Mar 22 04:54:22 UTC 2025: ## Local Entrepreneur Turns Tragedy into Triumph with Eco-Friendly Event Planning Startup

**Bengaluru, March 22, 2025** – Deepesh Bhaskar, founder of the environmental services startup Nilayaan, is transforming the event industry one sustainable celebration at a time. His journey began tragically with the death of a cow choking on plastic, an event that spurred him to dedicate his life to minimizing waste.

After a career in marketing and further study in sustainable development, Bhaskar launched Nilayaan during the COVID-19 lockdown. The company focuses on incorporating nature-based solutions into events and daily life, providing composting kits and consulting services to help individuals and organizations reduce their environmental impact.

Nilayaan’s work ranges from small-scale celebrations like baby showers and birthdays to large-scale events such as the recent Harris Jayaraj concert (“Rock On Harris”). At the concert, Nilayaan volunteers successfully converted 87 kilograms of food waste into compost and recycled over 250 kilograms of plastic, further highlighting their commitment to sustainable practices. Leftover food was also redistributed to those in need.

While Nilayaan has achieved considerable success, Bhaskar acknowledges challenges. Volunteer recruitment and management for large events pose significant logistical hurdles, with volunteer availability sometimes limiting the scope of waste management. Despite these obstacles, Nilayaan continues to strive for zero-waste events, promoting the use of compostable decorations and advocating for systemic change in waste management. Bhaskar’s personal commitment is evident, as he even applied Nilayaan’s principles to his own niece’s birthday party, demonstrating the practical application of his company’s philosophy. Nilayaan’s work demonstrates the potential for individual action to create significant, positive environmental impact.
