**Kozhikode, Kerala – March 22, 2025** – Pozhuthana and Meppadi grama panchayats in Wayanad district have launched “Munnorukkam,” a micro-level participatory disaster management initiative, with the support of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
The project, inaugurated by NABARD Chief General Manager Baiju N. Kurup and presided over by Wayanad District Panchayat President Shamsad Marakkar, focuses on building community resilience to natural disasters. Key objectives include establishing local weather monitoring systems, enhancing community disaster prediction capabilities, and developing effective mitigation strategies in collaboration with local authorities.
Pozhuthana Panchayat President Anas Rosna Steffi highlighted the crucial role of community-based disaster preparedness in her keynote address. C.K. Vishnudas, director of The Hume Centre, provided a detailed explanation of the project’s framework and its aim to strengthen the region’s resilience against natural hazards.
