**Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh:** A recent review of hospitals in Madhya Pradesh has exposed the deplorable conditions at JP Hospital in Bhopal, the state capital. The hospital, which recently introduced affordable MRI services, is struggling with a massive backlog of patients facing inadequate care, insufficient infrastructure, and a chronic lack of basic amenities.

Images from inside the hospital reveal a shocking state of disrepair. Air conditioning units in the Intensive Care Units (ICUs) are non-functional, with one pictured outside showing damage consistent with theft. Hospital staff confirmed that thieves stole the AC wires, a problem they say has recurred. Furthermore, ICU doors are routinely left wide open, compromising the sterile environment crucial for critically ill patients. Water supply is also unreliable.

Patients and their relatives described a chaotic and distressing situation. The lack of cooling systems in the sweltering heat has led to restlessness among patients, some of whom reportedly flee the wards to escape the oppressive conditions. Concerns were also raised about the lack of basic necessities such as fans and water coolers.

“The doctors are trying their best, but the management is missing,” said one relative of a patient. “People come here after surgeries, but the real test begins in the ICU.” Another added that “Patients are restless, some run outside to escape the heat. There’s no fan, no cooler with water, no one listens.”

The opposition has strongly criticized the hospital’s conditions, highlighting the discrepancy between its official records and the grim reality faced by patients. Hemant Katare, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, stated, “On paper, everything’s perfect. In reality, patients stand in long queues, machines have cobwebs, and medicines are substandard.”

Responding to the criticism, State Health Minister Narendra Shivaji Patel acknowledged the problems, stating that repairs to the faulty AC units are underway. However, the minister’s assurances offer little solace to the patients currently enduring the unacceptable conditions at JP Hospital. The incident highlights broader concerns about healthcare infrastructure and resource allocation within the state.
