Sat Mar 22 08:32:18 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Governor Condemns Anti-Savarkar Banner at Calicut University
**Kozhikode, Kerala, March 22, 2025** – Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar expressed strong disapproval today of a banner put up by Students Federation of India (SFI) activists at the University of Calicut. The banner, displayed during protests against former Governor Arif Mohammed Khan several months ago, read “We need a Chancellor and not Savarkar.”
Addressing the university Senate, a meeting marking his first-ever attendance as Chancellor, Governor Arlekar questioned Savarkar’s portrayal as an enemy of India, highlighting his selflessness and dedication to others. He stated that the banner’s presence compelled him to address the issue, emphasizing that the politicization of educational institutions is unacceptable.
Reports indicate that University Vice-Chancellor P. Raveendran had ordered the removal of various protest banners on Friday, including the anti-Savarkar banner, but SFI activists reportedly resisted. The Governor called on the Vice-Chancellor to ensure such incidents do not recur. The Governor’s attendance at the Senate meeting itself was a historic first for the institution.
