Sat Mar 22 04:46:11 UTC 2025: ## BJP Leader Faces Backlash After Threatening Women Protesters in West Bengal

**Kharagpur, West Bengal –** Senior BJP leader and former MP Dilip Ghosh is embroiled in controversy following a heated confrontation with women protesters in Kharagpur, West Bengal. A video of the incident, which went viral on social media, shows Ghosh aggressively responding to the women who questioned his absence during his time as an MP, while he was inaugurating a newly built road.

The women, who claimed the road was built by their Trinamool Congress councillor, Pradip Sarkar, accused Ghosh of taking credit for a project he had little involvement in. Ghosh, in response, angrily dismissed their claims, alleging they were Trinamool supporters motivated by the government’s Lakshmir Bhandar scheme. He went on to issue threats, saying he would “choke” the protesters and insulting their families.

The incident escalated quickly, with the women surrounding Ghosh’s car. Police intervened to de-escalate the situation. Ghosh later claimed the protest was orchestrated by the Trinamool and that he had contributed to the road’s construction through his MPLAD funds during his time as an MP. He further stated that the project cost ₹2.6 lakh and would significantly improve the living conditions of residents in the area.

Sarkar, the Trinamool councillor, strongly condemned Ghosh’s behavior, calling his language “unbecoming of a former MP” and questioning his motives for inaugurating the road. He also demanded an apology from Ghosh.

The incident, occurring a year before the state assembly elections, has provided the ruling Trinamool Congress with ammunition to attack the BJP, which has been making inroads in West Bengal in recent years. The controversy highlights the escalating political tensions in the state ahead of the crucial elections.
