**Hyderabad, Telangana, March 22, 2025** – The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) announced plans to transform the area surrounding Hussain Sagar lake into a modern, eco-friendly tourist destination. The ambitious project, dubbed the “Buddha Purnima Project,” will encompass several key landmarks, including Lumbini Park, the Martyrs Memorial, and NTR Garden.
The HMDA has issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) for master planning, architectural design, and engineering services for the redevelopment. The EOI, released Friday, outlines plans to improve traffic flow, enhance pedestrian and cyclist access, and create new commercial and recreational spaces. The project aims to reposition Sanjeevaiah Park as the central hub of tourism in the area.
The redevelopment will focus on creating a sustainable urban landscape, reducing the carbon footprint, and maximizing social, economic, and ecological benefits. Innovative technologies will be employed for Hussain Sagar Lake management. The project scope includes master planning for land use, corridor improvements, tourist amenities, pedestrianization, and water management.
Funding will be sourced from various avenues, including government funds, multilateral financing, financial markets, and public-private partnerships. The deadline for EOI submissions is April 15, 2025. The HMDA envisions a world-class, climate-conscious urban recreational hub, attracting both domestic and international tourists.
