**Kozhikode, Kerala – March 23, 2025** – Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has urged Kerala universities to spearhead a state-wide campaign against drug abuse, receiving the backing of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The call came during a Calicut University Senate meeting on Saturday, where participants wore “Say No to Drugs” blazers to demonstrate their commitment.

The proposed campaign will encompass strict action against drug abuse, public awareness initiatives, and advanced technological surveillance, including the use of artificial intelligence, alongside rehabilitation programs.

The meeting also addressed Calicut University’s financial matters. A budget of ₹752.9 crore was approved, with ₹721.39 crore in projected revenue. A significant ₹27 crore has been allocated for new projects, including a 1,000-capacity convention center, the renovation of the C.H. Mohammed Koya Library, a music school, a shooting range, a skating track, and the beautification of the golden jubilee open-air auditorium. The Senate further approved the conferral of 27,214 degrees.
