**Kozhikode, Kerala, March 22, 2025** – A suspected drug peddler from Thamarassery, identified as A.K. Fayiz, attempted to evade police custody by swallowing methylamphetamine (MDMA) on Friday. He was admitted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital and is scheduled for emergency surgery to remove the drugs. Doctors confirmed he is fit for the procedure after scans revealed the presence of MDMA.
Fayiz was apprehended following an alleged death threat against his wife and child, prompted by a report from local residents about his violent behavior. This incident follows a similar case on March 8th, where another Thamarassery resident, Iyyadan Shanid, died after ingesting a large quantity of MDMA while attempting to escape police custody. Following Shanid’s death, Kozhikode police intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking in rural areas.
