Thu Mar 20 17:42:32 UTC 2025: ## Delhi’s Mausam Bhavan Transformed into Open-Air Weather Museum

**NEW DELHI, March 20, 2025** – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has celebrated its 150th anniversary with a stunning new public art project. Thirty-eight vibrant murals, created by Delhi Street Art (DSA), now adorn the walls of the Mausam Bhavan on Lodhi Road, transforming the building into a unique open-air museum dedicated to weather.

The murals, ranging up to 20 feet by 8 feet, depict a captivating narrative of weather in India, weaving together mythology, history, and modern technology. The artwork features references to historical figures like Chanakya, Kalidasa, and Tansen, all linked to weather prediction or observation in different ways. It also showcases IMD’s modern technology, highlighting the use of satellites and timely alerts for farmers and fishermen.

“The satellite has become a popular spot for selfies,” noted Mayuri Saini, director of DSA, adding that the murals also include a section on dos and don’ts for dealing with weather emergencies.

The project, commissioned by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, engaged 40 artists for four weeks. It also serves as a tribute to Yogesh Saini, DSA’s founder, who passed away last year. The murals depict a variety of scenes, including cherry blossoms in Shillong, people enjoying mountain trips, the rainy landscapes of Mawsynram, and a hailstorm in Himachal Pradesh.

This initiative not only celebrates IMD’s legacy but also showcases DSA’s ongoing commitment to beautifying Delhi’s public spaces. The group has previously undertaken several similar projects across the city, although the ephemeral nature of street art means many are temporary. DSA plans to continue creating and refreshing its public art installations.
