Fri Mar 21 05:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Giancarlo Esposito Steps into Andre Braugher’s Shoes in Netflix’s “The Residence”

**Los Angeles, CA** – The cast and crew of Netflix’s new mystery series, “The Residence,” are remembering late actor Andre Braugher, who passed away in December 2023 at age 61 after a battle with lung cancer. Braugher had filmed several episodes before his death, playing White House Chief Usher A.B. Winter. His role was subsequently filled by Giancarlo Esposito.

Series creator Paul William Davies revealed that Esposito’s decision to take on the part was partly driven by his deep respect for Braugher. Davies stated that he didn’t rewrite the role for Esposito, praising the actors’ ability to make the character their own. He described the transition as seamless, citing a “continuity there and a real respect.” Davies added that the entire production was deeply affected by Braugher’s passing, and his spirit permeated the show’s creation. A tribute to Braugher will be included at the end of the series.

Cast members Susan Kelechi Watson and Barrett Foa echoed Davies’ sentiments, sharing their fond memories of Braugher and expressing relief at the smooth transition with Esposito. Foa emphasized that Esposito wasn’t replacing Braugher, but rather honoring the character in a different way. Watson fondly recalled Braugher’s unique sense of humor and their playful banter behind the scenes.

“The Residence” is now streaming on Netflix.
