**Madurai, March 21, 2025** – The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has sought a response from authorities regarding encroachments along the Kanniyakumari-Kaliyakkavilai National Highway. A public interest litigation (PIL) petition, filed by A. Jeeva of Kanniyakumari district, alleges that encroachments have narrowed the 55-km stretch, causing severe congestion, safety hazards, and frequent accidents.
The petitioner claims that encroachments by individuals and commercial establishments at various junctions, including Kuzhithurai and Marthandam, have rendered the highway poorly maintained and dangerously narrow, leading to traffic delays, fuel wastage, and life-threatening risks for commuters. Despite previous representations to authorities, no action has been taken to remove the encroachments and restore the highway to its original condition. The court is now awaiting a response from the relevant authorities.
