**CHENNAI, March 21, 2025** – The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has officially renamed Ramakrishnapuram 1st Street in West Mambalam after celebrated Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin. The unanimous decision, passed at Friday’s GCC council meeting, follows a request from Carrom Ball Event & Marketing Pvt. Ltd., citing Ashwin’s significant contributions to Indian and Tamil Nadu cricket.
The resolution highlights Ashwin’s numerous accolades and his recognition as one of the world’s best all-rounders. The GCC obtained government approval before proceeding with the renaming. The proposal, initially reviewed by the Standing Committee (Taxation and Finance), received their recommendation for approval.
Ashwin, 38, retired from international cricket in December 2024 after a distinguished career, becoming India’s second highest Test wicket-taker with 537 scalps. He was recently awarded the Padma Shri. He is set to play for the Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming Indian Premier League season.
