Fri Mar 21 11:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Veteran Ophthalmologist Appointed Vice-Chancellor of KNRUHS After Lengthy Vacancy

**Hyderabad, March 19, 2025** – Dr. P.V. Nanda Kumar Reddy has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) in Telangana, ending a decade-long tenure under the previous Vice-Chancellor. The appointment, effective immediately, was announced Tuesday by Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and Health secretary Christina Z. Chongthu. Dr. Reddy, a retired superintendent of Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital with 32 years of experience, will serve a three-year term.

The previous Vice-Chancellor, Dr. B. Karunakar Reddy, held the position since 2015, initially on an interim basis before receiving extensions. His prolonged tenure faced legal and academic challenges, culminating in a 2022 High Court petition by the Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) questioning the delay in appointing a successor. Following a court directive in June 2023, the Telangana government opened applications for the position in June 2024. The selection process required candidates to meet stringent criteria, including a minimum of two years as a dean or ten years as a medical college principal. Dr. Reddy’s appointment follows this rigorous selection process.
