Thu Mar 20 18:16:06 UTC 2025: ## Guindy Railway Station Modernization: Commuters Frustrated by Parking Shortage

**Chennai, March 20, 2025** – The modernization of Guindy railway station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) is progressing, but a lack of parking on the east side is causing significant frustration for commuters. While a new parking area on the west side is operational, and a multi-level car park is soon to be constructed, hundreds of commuters accessing the station via Race Course Road lack a safe place to park their two-wheelers.

The station’s transformation into a multi-modal hub, connecting buses and the metro, necessitates adequate parking. The relocation of MTC buses from GST Road to Race Course Road, following the metro station’s construction, has exacerbated the issue. Commuters report parking their vehicles on roadsides, fearing theft or towing.

A Southern Railway official confirmed the completion of west-side parking and the upcoming multi-level car park. However, they did not address the ongoing concerns regarding the east side. Local commuters, such as M. Sai Prasanth, highlight the inconvenience, urging the authorities to address the parking shortage on the east side. They also point to significant encroachments on railway property that could be cleared to create additional parking space. The ABSS project is scheduled for completion by the end of the year, but the parking problem remains a pressing concern for daily commuters.
