Fri Mar 21 02:54:56 UTC 2025: ## High Court Judge Transferred Amidst Unaccounted Cash Discovery

**New Delhi** – Justice Yashwant Verma has been transferred from the Delhi High Court back to the Allahabad High Court following the discovery of a large sum of unaccounted cash in his official bungalow. Sources within the Supreme Court Collegium confirmed the transfer, stating the decision was made after the cash was found following a fire at the residence last week during the Holi holidays.

The fire, reported by the judge’s family members who were not present at the time, led to the involvement of emergency services and subsequently, the police. The subsequent discovery of the unaccounted cash prompted the Collegium, headed by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, to act swiftly.

While Justice Verma has yet to comment on the matter, sources indicate that Chief Justice Khanna took a serious view of the situation. The five-member Collegium unanimously agreed on the transfer, although some members reportedly favored stronger action. Discussions reportedly included calls for Justice Verma’s resignation. Should he refuse to resign, an internal inquiry, potentially leading to removal proceedings by Parliament under Article 124(4) of the Constitution, could be initiated.

The Supreme Court’s 1999 guidelines on handling allegations against judges were referenced. These guidelines outline a process involving a response from the judge, a potential internal committee investigation, and ultimately, a request for resignation followed by parliamentary removal if necessary. The situation highlights the ongoing scrutiny and processes involved in addressing allegations of misconduct within the Indian judiciary.
