Thu Mar 20 17:01:10 UTC 2025: ## 25 Indians Face Death Penalty in UAE: Government
**New Delhi, March 20, 2025** – The Indian government revealed on Thursday that 25 Indian nationals have received death sentences in the UAE, although the judgments are yet to be carried out. This information was disclosed by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh in response to a Rajya Sabha query.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also reported a total of 10,152 Indian prisoners, including those awaiting trial, currently incarcerated in foreign prisons. The government stated it prioritizes the safety and well-being of Indian citizens abroad, including those imprisoned.
Further details provided by the Minister showed that death sentences, not yet implemented, have also been handed down to Indian nationals in Saudi Arabia (11), Malaysia (6), Kuwait (3), and one each in Indonesia, Qatar, the U.S., and Yemen. The MEA actively assists these individuals through consular services, legal aid, and appeals processes.
However, the government also acknowledged executions of Indian citizens in several countries over the past five years. In 2024, three Indians each were executed in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, with one execution in Zimbabwe. In 2023, five Indians were executed in both Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and one in Malaysia. The MEA stated that execution data for the UAE is unavailable due to a lack of information sharing by UAE authorities, although informal sources suggest no executions occurred there between 2020 and 2024.
