Fri Mar 21 15:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Heatwave Warning Issued for North India

**New Delhi:** After a relatively mild winter and pleasant spring, residents of North India are bracing for a significant temperature surge. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for the region, predicting a sharp increase in temperatures over the next few days and weeks.

The IMD forecasts a heatwave starting this week and lasting until August-September. Temperatures in cities across Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Delhi are expected to reach between 34°C and 37°C. The pleasant weather following Holi was attributed to western disturbances bringing rain and snowfall in the mountains. However, these disturbances are expected to weaken, leading to clear skies and a consequent rise in temperatures. Improved air quality is also anticipated due to the clearer skies.

The IMD warns of a potential for severe heatstroke, particularly in the National Capital Region (NCR). The agency projects maximum temperatures reaching 37°C and minimums around 19°C by March 27th. Specific forecasts include a high of 36°C and a low of 16°C on March 24th, rising to 37°C and 18°C by March 26th.

The prolonged heatwave is expected to significantly impact the region for the next five months, with only potential relief arriving in August or September. Residents are advised to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
