**WASHINGTON D.C.** – Millions of Americans could still be eligible for a stimulus check worth up to $1,400, the IRS announced. The agency is distributing approximately $2.4 billion in unclaimed payments related to the Recovery Rebate Credit, a refundable tax credit for those who didn’t receive previous stimulus payments.

The IRS discovered many eligible taxpayers who filed 2021 returns failed to claim this credit. Taxpayers who haven’t yet filed their 2021 returns can still claim the credit and receive the payment, but must file by April 15, 2025. Those who filed but omitted the Recovery Rebate Credit (leaving the field blank or entering $0) are also eligible.

The IRS is automatically sending payments via direct deposit or mail to those who already filed. Eligible individuals will receive a notification letter. Those who haven’t filed their 2021 returns should do so immediately to claim the credit and any other potential refunds. The maximum payment available is $1,400 per individual.
